Will of Thomas Donstan, dated 22 January 1744/45

In the Name of God Amen I
 
Thomas Donstan of the Parish of Stithians in the County of Cornwall Yeoman
Being Sick and Weak in Body but of Sound and Disposeing Memory blessed
Be God for it, do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament
In form and manar following hereby Revoking all former Wills by me
made___ And First I do bequeath my Soul into the hands of almighty
God who first gave it hopeing to obtain everlasting Fillisity in the life to
come in and thro’ the Merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my
body to the Earth to be Decently buried by order of my Executer hereafter
named and I do alott Six Pounds for my Funeral at the least I will that
my Legaces and Funeral Charges be Satisfied and Paid. Item I Give and
Bequeath to my Daughter Ann the Wife of Bennet Odger the Sum of Three
Pounds (per ?) Year to be paid her by the Ocipiers (occupiers ?) of the Estate known or
Called by the name of Landzonack in Stithians aforesaid which said
Sum she shall receive by equal Quarterly Payments During her life
If the lives bee so long and also the house in the Lane commonly called Cowlans
house after the Death of William Donstan who is the life thereun and
in case the above Three Pounds (per ?) Year shall or may be neglected or refused
to (bop’ ?) that in such or such Case she shall be in full power to Enter un
(thos’ ?) Estate or anything thereun and Sell the same in reforming the
Overplush. Item I Give and Bequeath to my Daughter Jane the House called by the name
of Bornd House and the Three Meadows thereunto Adjoining
free from Ratts (Rates ?) and Taxes in paying Two Shillings and Sixpence (per ?)
Quarter to my Executer during his life if the lives live so long
Item I Give and Bequeath to my Daughter Soporah during her life
If the lives un caroncreaze (Carncrees ?) so long live the House called coads

house with ye backside of the same with place by the
Churchway ?odge above the Mowkey Gap for making furce or Turfe
And to Serapo Dong to the valy of four feet about the said Furce or
Turf Ricks and the Field and Meadow Joining with Ann Vencens to the
Western lane but if She Marry she shall have nothing to do with it
But to have One Shilling but it shall be wholly the Three Childrens
Which she had by Colan Donstan Deceased and to pay no Rats (Rates ?) nor
Taxes but to pay Two Shillings and Sixpence (per ?) Quarter to my Executer
Item I Give and Bequeath to my Wife Ann Six Pounds (per ?) Year
paid by my Executer by Quarterly Payments which if not paid in 20 days
after the Quarter is out she shall be in full power to Seas (seize) or enter on
Careucreaze (Carncrees ?) (above ?) for the same also alow and to be Gras.d 14 or 15
Days after my Deceas Also the House for her own use called the parlor and
to Pay one half of the Charge of Building a Chemny (Chimney ?) with my Executer
which he shall (repair ?). Item I Give and Bequeath to Dorothy and Collan
Daughter and Son of my Daughter Soporah Twenty Shillings (per) Year untill
they be Sixteen Years of Age. Item I Give to my nine Grandchildren
five shillings each to be paid by my Executer in Twelve Months after
my Deceas Item I Give and Bequeath to my Tew Son in Laws
Benet Odger and Thomas Vencent two Shillings and Sixpence each
to be paid by my Executer in Twelve Months after my Deceas Item
I Give and Bequeath to my Wife Ann One Bed as it stands One (Clock ?)
one little pan one putor platter one puter plate one brass candlestick
one Dish and Spone which she shall receive as soon as she pleas
after my death. Item I Give to my Two Sisters Mary and Elizabeth
a pair of Gloves each. Item I Give to my Wife Seaf and Gloves and
likewise to my Three Grandsons the same. Item I Give to the

Rev’d Mr. Lewis a Seaf and Gloves also a Seaf and Gloves to Geo.
Marten John Donstan Bennet Odger Thomas Vencent and also to my Daughters and
Duaghter law and likewise Seaf and Gloves to my Three Grandsons
All the rest of my Goods and Chattells moveable and immoveable both
real and Personall of what Nature or kind soever I Give and Bequeath
unto my Son John whom I do nominate and Appoint to be my whole
and Sole Executer of this my last Will and Testament but in cause my
Son happen to Dye without (Seed ?) that then what remains shall return
to To my Three Daughters & Daughter law to be Divided in four parts
equally alike to them or their children. This is my Last Will and Testament
as Witness my hand and Seal this Twenty Second Day of January in
the year of our Lord God 1744/45

The before written Will was Proved in Comon form the 5th of December 1746
Before the Rev’d Mr.Waddon ??? M. of Arts Official et. And Admion of the
Goods et. Of Thos. Deced and of all things howsoever concerning his said Will
Was Granted to the Executer therein named being first Sworn et. / Saving et.
